The pilgrimage to Candelaria on Tenerife is a special experience of spirituality and devotion. The pilgrimage to Candelaria traditionally takes place on 14 and 15 August to celebrate the feast of the Virgen de Candelaria, the patron saint of the Canary Islands. From Villa Castillo Moro, you can immerse yourself in the cheerful pilgrimage atmosphere in around 10 minutes on foot, enjoy a cool drink and let yourself be enchanted by the atmosphere. The pilgrims’ path is just above the villa.

The duration of the pilgrimage

The duration of the pilgrimage depends on the individual speed and the starting point of the pilgrimage. As a rule, pilgrims need around 4 to 8 hours to cover the distance from the various starting points to Candelaria. It is advisable to start early to avoid the heat of the day and to allow enough time for prayers, breaks and sightseeing along the way.

During the annual pilgrimage festival in Candelaria and Punta Larga, numerous events and festivities await you. From religious processions and masses to cultural events and traditional dances, there is something for everyone. The streets are decorated with colorful flags and flower garlands, while local bands and artists provide entertainment. There are great concerts in the evenings with local cover bands playing Queen, Beatles and more.
